al-tawḥīd
The oneness of Allah
To single out Allah, exalted is He, in what belongs to Him alone — in His lordship, in worship, and in His names and attributes.

- To single out Allah, exalted is He, in what belongs to Him alone, and to affirm for Him what He affirmed for Himself and what His Messenger ﷺ affirmed for Him.
Many of the scholars set it out in three: tawḥīd al-rubūbiyya — that He alone creates, owns and governs; tawḥīd al-ulūhiyya — that He alone is to be worshipped; and tawḥīd al-asmāʾ wa-l-ṣifāt — that His names and attributes are affirmed as He affirmed them, without likening Him to His creation and without emptying the words of their meaning.
The Prophet ﷺ called this sūra equal to a third of the Qurʾān — a measure of how much of revelation is taken up with this single matter.
